Dr. Divya M. Varu is a board-certified Ophthalmologist specializing in the care of cataract surgery and refractive surgery patients in Austin at Dell Laser Consultants (DLC). As a fellowship-trained surgeon in iLASIK and Advanced Surface Ablation/PRK she provides a customized treatment plan for patients in order to meet their individual needs. She is also a skilled cataract and refractive lens exchange surgeon, performing surgery using full focus intraocular lens implants. With her expertise in a wide range of complex pathology, Dr. Varu has expanded the services provided at Dell Laser Consultants to include comprehensive eye care, dry eye management, and aesthetic services. She uses state-of-the-art treatments for patients with dry eye disease, keratoconus, ocular allergies, rosacea, glaucoma, retinal disease, and other concerns. Furthermore, Dr. Varu serves on the Cornea/External Disease Preferred Practice Panel, which is a distinguished group of ophthalmologists who provide international recommendations for care to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
After graduating from the George Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Varu completed her ophthalmology residency training at the prestigious Northwestern University. During her training, she was selected as the first chief resident and served as the resident ambassador for the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology. Interested in the precise nature of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery, she pursued a rigorous fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, working with world-renowned surgeons. Prior to joining DLC, she was in private practice outside of Chicago and later at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, an affiliate of Stanford University. Throughout her career, Dr. Varu has been committed to education and continues to be involved in training eye care specialists around the country. Locally, she is the co-founder of the Austin Women in Vision group, which provides educational and networking opportunities to female doctors in eyecare.
Additionally, Dr. Varu is passionate about public service and has been a medical volunteer in Cuba, Ethiopia, and India. She has worked with the United States Senate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Public Health Association, and the American Medical Women’s Association on a variety of health care initiatives. Dr. Varu has been recognized for her community involvement as a finalist for the “Austin Under 40” Award in Medicine and Healthcare.
