Steven J. Dell, MD

Dell is a board certified ophthalmologist and the Medical Director of Dell Laser Consultants. He has dedicated his career to enhancing vision correction in the US and abroad, and he strives to provide each patient with exceptional, customized treatment and unparalleled results. An award-winning eye surgeon, Dr. Dell has been a featured presenter at major ophthalmology conferences around the world, where he helps to train other eye surgeons in the latest techniques. Furthermore, he is an advocate of continuing education, and his research has led to the development of some of the most advanced technologies available. Through his relationship with the FDA and several ophthalmic equipment manufacturers, he is able to provide patients with state-of-the-art innovations years ahead of other practices.

Dr. Dell believes he has a responsibility to help educate the next generation of eye surgeons, and he sponsors learning opportunities for budding eye doctors. These externships allow students to observe him performing groundbreaking surgical techniques and to develop practical experience in the field. Dr. Dell has also been the preferred choice for athletes, politicians, celebrities, and other eye doctors seeking their own eye surgery. Derek N. Cunningham, OD, FAAO

dr-cDr. Cunningham’s advanced research cover a vast spectrum of eye are and neuroscience including; dry eye treatments, glaucoma medications and surgeries, retinal disease, cataract and LASIK surgeries, cosmetic treatments and products, vision enhancement and sports vision. His innovative research has been presented at all major meetings ranging from the American Retinal society, the Academies of Ophthalmology and Optometry, to the American College of Sports Medicine. His research has been featured in many medical journals and showcased in publications such as Sports Illustrated and Forbes Magazine.

In addition to having been an associate professor at Texas Tech School of Medicine, Dr. Cunningham also held adjunct professor status at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, University of Waterloo, University of Houston, and University of Incarnate Word.

Dr. Cunningham is an internationally recognized educator, having provided continuing education lectures to eye doctors throughout the world. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and was one of the first optometrists to be Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry.  He is also the founding Chair of the Integrated Ophthalmic Task Force for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Cunningham is the director of the Dry Eye Institute at Dell Laser Consultants (DLC) and is well published in the areas of advanced dry eye treatments and facial aesthetics.  He has presented to and educated leading ophthalmologists, corneal specialists and optometrists in the United States and numerous countries around the world.   Many of Dr. Cunningham’s dry eye protocols are being used by academic institutions around the country and his eye disease grading scales are even research standards in other countries.

Dry Eye Milestones

  • Dr. Cunningham was one of the lead authors for the only peer reviewed published optometric dry eye guidelines in North America.

 

  • Dr. Cunningham was a co-host and Chair of The Dry Eye Summit. A meeting of the top 50 leading dry eye optometry experts in North America.

Dr. Cunningham has a special interest in Sports Vision and Performance, and is the former Chair of the American Optometric Association’s Sports Vision Section. He currently consults and provides vision training services to numerous professional and NCAA teams.  This work will often have Dr. Cunningham presenting and attending meetings such as the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Athletic Trainers Association meetings.

As Director of Optometry and Research at Dell Laser Consultants (DLC), Dr. Cunningham specializes in the evaluation and management of vision correction surgery patients and coordinates DLC’s clinical research studies. He oversees the Dry Eye Clinic, including advanced dry eye and facial rejuvenation programs.

 

Divya M. Varu, MD

Dr. Divya M. Varu is a board-certified Ophthalmologist specializing in the care of cataract and refractive surgery patients at Dell Laser Consultants (DLC). As a fellowship-trained surgeon in iLASIK and Advanced Surface Ablation/PRK she provides a customized treatment plan for patients in order to meet their individual needs. She is also a skilled cataract and refractive lens exchange surgeon, performing surgery using full focus intraocular lens implants.  With her expertise in a wide range of complex pathology, Dr. Varu has expanded the services provided at Dell Laser Consultants to include comprehensive eye care and aesthetic services. She uses state-of-the-art treatments for patients with dry eye disease, keratoconus, ocular allergies, rosacea, glaucoma, retinal disease, and other concerns. Dr. Varu strives to translate the spectacular advances of medical science and technology into quality care for her patients.

Dr. Varu has published in peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent contributor to the medical journal Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today. Furthermore, Dr. Varu serves on the Cornea/External Disease Preferred Practice Panel, which is a distinguished group of ophthalmologists who provide international recommendations for care to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

After graduating from the George Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Varu completed her ophthalmology residency training at the prestigious Northwestern University. During her training, she was selected as the first chief resident and served as the resident ambassador for the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology. Interested in the precise nature of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery, she pursued a rigorous fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, working with world-renowned surgeons. Prior to joining DLC, she was in private practice outside of Chicago and later at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, an affiliate of Stanford University. Throughout her career, Dr. Varu has been committed to education and continues to be involved in training eye care specialists around the country.

Additionally, Dr. Varu is passionate about public service and has been a medical volunteer in Cuba, Ethiopia, and India. She has worked with the United States Senate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Public Health Association, and the American Medical Women’s Association on a variety of health care initiatives.

M. Nabila Gomez, OD, FAAO

Dr. Gomez attended Nova Southeastern College of Optometry where she graduated with honors and received letters of clinical excellence. Following graduation, Dr. Gomez was selected for a post-doctoral residency at the #1 ranked eye hospital in the country,  Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, where she received medical and peri-operative training in all ocular disease sub-specialties.

Dr. Gomez specializes in the evaluation and management of vision correction surgery, cataract surgery, dry eye disease, ocular surface disease and glaucoma utilizing the most advanced diagnostic testing and effective treatments available.

Dr. Gomez has been repeatedly published in optometry journals, such as optometry’s most read journal, Review of Optometry. Currently Dr. Gomez has been working in cutting edge advanced dry eye treatment that included new research areas of facial cosmetics and aesthetics. This has led to her having a unique knowledge of facial care, facial skin care products and ocular cosmetics.

In October, 2017 Dr. Gomez became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a distinction given to only 10% of optometrist who have achieved a higher standard of professional competence and met rigorous qualifications for membership. She is also the vice president of the Central Texas Optometry Society and a member of the Texas Optometry Association and American Optometric Association. She has a passion for volunteer work and travels often to Ecuador to provide eye-care for the underserved.
