Schedule ConsultationA cataract is a clouding or yellowing of the natural lens inside the eye, resulting in distorted vision that is no longer crisp, clear, and true to color. While cataracts occur as part of the aging process, many other conditions such as trauma, diabetes, vitamin deficiency or inflammatory diseases can accelerate cataract growth. Although they may not be noticeable at first, once present, cataracts only worsen over time, and clear vision can only be restored by removing the cataracts. In order to remove cataracts and restore vision, the eye’s natural lens is removed and then replaced with an artificial lens, known as an IOL. The traditional IOL will correct your vision for distance, but reading glasses will most likely be needed to see up close.
