New research has shown that visual alerting methods are still considered to be the most trustworthy, as compared to auditory or tactile alerts.

This is shown by research conducted by a team of scientists at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, USA.In the study, thirty undergraduate students completed two sessions of a virtual reconnaissance mission. During each session, they received ten alerts about nearly opposing forces. They indicated trust or distrust  of each alert, and subsequently identified the avatar as friend or foe. Results indicated that participants trusted more historically reliable alerts, and that they showed quicker identification behaviour for visually presented alerts.

LASIK eye surgery is one of the best ways of maximizing your most important sense.

In addition to talking about steps you can take to protect your eyes during sports and recreation, Dr. Cunningham explains why certain sports carry more risk for eye injury, and advises how to know if an eye injury is serious enough to require medical attention,  and the risks of not having an eye injury examined by your eye care doctor.

Many people hesitate to have LASIK because they fear a poor outcome.  A recent study sheds much light
on the risk of vision loss with LASIK eye surgery vs contact lens wear.

The significant findings from this study showed that soft contact lens wear posed the same risk of losing vision as LASIK vision
correction (as long as the contact lens wearer was fully compliant with lenswear times, replacement schedules, never topped off solution etc..).

If the soft contact lenses wearer was not fully compliant or ever slept in contacts, the risk of vision loss was higher with contacts than
with LASIK eye surgery.

This study really shows that traditional fears of vision loss with LASIK are unwarranted.  Contactlenses and LASIK are generally considered safe methods of vision correction,but the need for compliance with contact lenses is reinforced in this study.

It is important to treat all ocular allergies before and after eye surgery.  Once patient achieve excellent vision after eye surgery, they often dismiss eye comfort due to the excitement of great vision.  It is important to continue to treat any itching or watering for several reasons.   A primary concern is eye irritation that may instigate eye rubbing that could lead to complications.  A  secondary and equally important concern is ocular comfort.   We want all patients to enjoy clear and comfortable vision for the rest of their lives.

eye convention in Atlanta, Georgia this weekend.  SECO is one of the largest and well respected
optometry conventions in the world.  Dr. Cunningham will be lecturing on ocular disease and LASIK eye surgery.  Dr. Cunningham will be educating other eyedoctors on the world leading treatment strategies developed by Dr. Steven Dell.
